I was invited to participate in this project created by "Aniboom" in memorial of 9/11.Many artists from around the globe have contributed on this special project.
When thinking about the idea I wanted to pay homage to the "Firemen" (therefore the hydrant in the scene) and also to all the people that lost loved ones in the tragedy.I did it as if it had been done by a child, to keep an innocent feel about it, because of the subjects touchy nature.
The little boy symbolizes the people who lost loved ones, looking at the ever imponant twin towers.
The hydrant symbolizes the Firemen, who are always there in situations of help for City citizens in general.The rain symbolizes the tragedy itself and the Sun rays at the end would be Heaven.

Recebi um convite para participar deste projeto criado pela "Aniboom" em memória do 11 de setembro.Muitos artistas mundo a fora contribuiram neste projeto especial.
Quando pensei em uma idéia para o projeto Eu queria homenagear os "Bombeiros" (por isso o hidrante na cena) e também todas as pessoas que perderam entes queridos na tragédia.Fiz como tivesse sido feito por uma criança, para manter uma certa inocência por causa na natureza delicada do assunto.
O menino simboliza as pessoas que perderam seus entes queridos.
O hidrante simboliza os Bombeiros, que sempre estão presentes em situações de socorro para cidadões em geral.A chuva simboliza a tragédia e os raios de sol seriam o Céu/Toque Divino.

Piece done in Photoshop after a really basic sketch in ZBrush. I think this guy found some hair gel or something, pretty slick for an Orc, I was going to for an Alien Priest/Politician look but got carried away with the scaring... and the grey skin was yelling Orc, might mess his hair a bit and re-post it later on. This was my entry for the June "11 second club" monthly competition, the audio is great, came up with this idea but couldn't quite get it finished as I wanted in time, it was good enough to make it into the top ten and it went for 7th place out of 191 entries.

These are some of the Illustrations done by me for the "Citizen's Guide, Education and Citizenship". The project was idealized by "Instituto MetaSocial" with Helena Werneck as the coordinator. The Guide is about basic orientations for the coexistance of all, together with physically and mentally disabled people, with the objective to propitiate inclusion, education and citizenship.

Bat character I´ve been working on for fun and practice, tried putting wings on him but didn't like it, thought he looked better without them, I gave him a slight membrane along the arms on both sides, hinting where the wings would have grown from but were lost due to evolution and a lack of need.With the feet I wanted to make them like hoofs but still having toes, keeping pressure at the center toes, kind of like how they turned out. Hope some of you like it,cheers to all.

Personagem morcego que tenho usado pra me divertir e praticar, tentei colocar asas nele, mas não gostei, ficou melhor sem mesmo, Então fiz uma membrana descendo pelos braços na frente e atrás pra dar a impressão de onde cresceriam as asas mas foram perdidas pela evolução por falta de necessidade. Os pés Eu fiz para parecer cascos, mas mantendo os dedos, com a pressão nos dedos centrais, gostei deles. Espero que alguns gostem, Abraço a todos!

Based on the play by Molière, this is a children's book adaptation by MárcioTrigo, written in Portuguese, published by Editora Mirabolante and myself as the illustrator. The deadline for the book´s release was a bit tight so I took a simple approach with the style of the backgrounds. I have posted here 8 images(including the cover) of the 15 done in total for the book, which is being released this week throughout Brazil.The 17th Century look and the Humorous script made this project a lot of fun to work on.

Baseado na Peça de molière, este Livro infantil é uma adaptação por MárcioTrigo, publicado pela Editora Mirabolante e Eu como o ilustrador.O prazo de entrega foi meio curto então fiz o fundo dos desenhos mais simples.Postei aqui 8 imagens(incluindo a capa), das 15 que fiz ao todo para o livro, que lança esta semana na maior parte do Brasil. O visual século 17 e o roteiro bem humorado fez com que este projeto fosse bem divertido de se trabalhar.

Based on the play by Molière, this is a children's book adaptation by Márcio Trigo, written in Portuguese, published by Editora Mirabolante and myself as the illustrator.
The picture above was the one that got the style approved; the deadline was a bit tight so I took a simple approach with the style of the backgrounds. I’m currently waiting for the green light from the Publisher to post the illustrations, should be sometime mid June, till then hope you enjoy this preview.

Red Dragon done for fun, no reference at all was used in this piece, wanted to do a toony dragon, the expression doesn't help the look,but the proportions kind of work.

Ortvak the gatekeeper

Hello to all, this is my latest piece of artwork, done for fun and for some practice.
His name is Ortvak and he guards the gate of some DarkLord´sevil relm,
his weapons are all clean because seriously, not many people mess with him.
Started out with a simple basemesh, not worrying about loops in the topology at all, separated the head, torso and legs for a lighter mesh, final sculpt has 8 subdivision levels on the head, 7 on the torso and 6 on the legs, the vest, waist strap and loin cloth were made with retopology. All the weapons and the bison skull were decimated down(also for a lighter final mesh). Exported a few images from Zbrush, using most as an overlay layer in Photoshop, also transforming most of them using: Filter-Artistic-Paint daubs, once final image achieved, a flattened copy was saved and duplicated twice, one layer with a little radial blur and the other with Paint daubs effect, to give it a more painted feeling to the final piece.

Artists who influence me are Aaron Sims and Scott Patton, really love their workflow. Below are some of the workflow steps based mainly on Scott Patton's Gnomon Giant video tutorial .

This Picture was done for a couple of dear friends of mine, who finally tied the knot this past weekend. An individual picture of each one was put on the toilet doors during the wedding, the couple was used for the guest book, and a framed version will be given as gift as soon as they make it back from the Honeymoon.
The illustration was done in TVPaint with some touch ups in Photoshop.

Personal work, started off with zspheres, just wanted to do a creature I hadn´t seen before, ended up with this crazy mix of a horse, triceratops, iguana , man and fish. I liked the design , though it´s got some really large feet.

VOLTAIRE FROM ("THE PRINCESS & THE VAGABOND") YEAR - 2009

These scenes were part on another, feature length, end of year special,
called "The Princess and the Vagabond".
The digital rat was done at the Visual effects department,
at "CGP-Central Globo Produções" TVGLOBO all rights reserved.
Alexandre "Thunndro" Areal was Head of the project and also the project's
TD.
Marcos Piolla modeled Voltaire in Lightwave and rigged it in Softimage.
Thunndro did the render passes from the base colours to the furr in
Softimage`s Mental Ray and composed the 3D passes in After Effects. He
also did all the textures and lighting and colour correction, most of the
compositing and managed the final output. He did most of the scene props
and digital BGs.
Animators were Myself(who had the biggest load on animation), Marcelo
Merola, Pedro Vicente, Paula Gouvea, Jan Habib and Alexandre Martins, who
also Animated at the end of the project and helped in the compositing.
